docka | mirror | 2026
“The entrance to a home is the threshold between outside and inside, a quiet zone of transition in our daily lives. The objects we encounter here mark both our arrival and our departure. A final, checking glance in the mirror before heading out, or a moment to take a deep breath after a day spent in the outside world.”
The ‘DOCKA’ project explores the concept of the frame in a playful yet reduced manner. It deliberately avoids framing the object in the traditional sense. This creates an innovative, functional and immediate connection between the wooden arch, which serves as a mount, and the round mirror. At the same time, the wooden arch serves as a shelf for everyday items such as keys or for things that one intuitively wants to put down in a familiar place upon coming home.
The product is manufactured in the carpentry workshop of the St. Jakob Foundation in the heart of Zurich. The foundation is committed to regional production and inclusion through inclusive employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The reduced construction, comprising just two materials and components, ensures long-lasting use, ease of repair and simplified assembly. At the end of its life cycle, the object can be dismantled into its constituent parts – wood and glass – in a single step. Thanks to these values and the use of Swiss ash wood, DOCKA is a product that is socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. As an example of sustainable design, the wall mirror conveys transparency and leaves the viewer with a smile on their face – and not just in terms of its form.
The product is available at norkind’s concept stores and onlineshop.
